Rúben Couto was found dead in the cell at 11 pm.
Rúben Couto, who beat up his psychology master colleague Beatriz Lebre to death, with whom he had a romantic relationship, was found dead this Sunday night at the Lisbon Prison (EPL). According to the CM, the body of the 25-year-old murderer was detected at 11:00 pm. He was being watched from hour to hour, so the death happened between 22:00 and 23:00.
Rúben Couto had been in the EPL Wing D for about ten days, after leaving the confinement, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. At 11:40 pm, an INEM team arrived at the scene to collect the body.
Rúben Couto was arrested on May 27 and confessed that he murdered Beatriz Lebre, 23, a native of Elvas, for whom she had an obsession. After killing her, he threw the body to the Tagus, Lisbon, which was to be recovered by the authorities two days after the arrest.
The family lawyer, Miguel Matias, confirmed to the CM that she has already been informed of Rúben’s death in the EPL. The young man had attempted suicide before: he cut his wrists the first night he was detained and was hospitalized.
