In Multivers of Madness, this new heroine is looking for her missing parents across the Multiverse. We take stock of this sub-plot.
This is the little news of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. A quality recruit. America Chavezsuperheroine of Latin origin, who has the very special power to teleport in the Multiverse in spite of herself when she feels fear. A powerful and uncontrollable power that has already played a bad trick on him and not the least: the disappearance of his two mothers in his native universe. Explanation. Flashback. When she was younger, America unintentionally created a multiversal portal that literally absorbed her parents into another universe. Since then, she tirelessly searches for her two mothers from universe to universe.. In the meantime, she crossed paths with two Dr. Strange, Defender Strange and the “true” Stephen Strange. In the film, she decides at the end to continue looking for her parents after the confrontation with Wanda which gave her courage and the desire to surpass herself. She also learns to master her power so that it becomes a strength and is no longer a handicap..
In the original comics, America’s destiny is very different from Sam Raimi’s MCU film adaptation. The itinerary of his two mothers is much more tragic than in the film: Amalia and Elena Chavez died sacrificing themselves to save America and her sister Catalina. The latter being completely absent from the film. Amalia and Elena were renowned doctors who believed in an unscrupulous millionaire who claimed he could cure the genetic disease that then plagued America and Catalina.. After discovering the deception of the patron who was in reality seeking to exploit the nascent powers of America, the two mothers decided to save their daughters at the risk of their lives. A narrative framework perhaps too complex and too dark for Marvel studios. In Doctor Strange 2it was after being frightened by a flying insect that young America opened the multidimensional portal which teleported her two mothers against her will… No laughing.
What future for Amelia and Elena in the MCU?
It happens, as here, that Marvel Studios radically changes the origin stories of its heroes and heroines at the expense of the source material (hello Deadpool version 2009). Thus, and perhaps with a view to bringing about a happy family ending, one can imagine that America Chavez’s parents are still alive and that she will find them at the end of her journey.. For now, both mothers are lost in the Multiverse. One could imagine their search becoming part of the storyline for the Master of the Mystic Arts’ third solo adventure and its potential novella. sidekickAmerica. This one is supposed to become in turn a real superheroine under the secret identity of Ms America. Or maybe become the new Captain America according to our recent theory, a bit wacky. Still, the fate of Amelia and Elena is still up in the air in the MCU and their deaths are never explained on screen.. We could very well imagine their return and their place in the Marvel universe in future films. Their presence could be part of the continuity of the representation of LGBTQ minorities in the Marvel/Disney universe. The homosexuality of the two women has been a source of controversy in traditionalist and rigorous countries. Indeed, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have asked Disney to censor all “LGBTQ references” in the film. It’s important to note that America Chavez was created in the original comics in 2011. She is the first superheroine of Latino origin and the first from LGBTQ minorities..
