WhatsApp increases the number of group members to 512 and the size of shared files to 2 GB

The social distancing that Covid-19 has instigated for several months has forced the world to direct the majority of social and professional interactions to social networks. This difficult period has been a catalyst for evolution for several social platforms.

The WhatsApp social network has brought new things to its users. He announced on Thursday, May 5, that his “group” function can now accommodate up to 512 members. That is double what was possible until then. The other improvement is the increase in the size of the files to be sent at once. From 100 MB before, it has increased to 2 GB allowing WhatsApp users to share the equivalent of a small compressed digital library, longer videos, graphic creations.

In Africa, the latest recent innovations of WhatsApp are a boon for various actors, including e-commerce companies, schools, professional groups, unions, NGOs, political parties.

The platform explained that these new improvements are in line with its commitment “ to offer organizations, businesses and other tight-knit groups the ability to securely communicate and organize on WhatsApp ».

Since the start of 2022, WhatsApp has already made several improvements to the platform to make it more useful to users. In March, the social network introduced new voicemail options. It is now possible, among other things, to read a voice message outside the discussion, to pause the recording of a voice message or to listen to its voice message before sending it. In April, the “Community” option was introduced. The idea behind it is to gather several groups within a super-group.

Several innovations are currently in the making at the level of WhatsApp, which wants to become a reference platform for exchanges in the world. The social network implements the many requests, suggestions and comments expressed by users during the Covid-19 crisis, which has impacted a large part of social and professional interactions.
