Through a press release the Lega Serie A has announced how and when the award ceremony of the winning team will be celebrated of the championship:
“On Sunday 22 May the Lega Serie A and TIM, at the end of the matches at 18.00, will deliver the Italian Champion Cup to the winning club of the 2021-2022 championship.
The Scudetto, as a symbol of victory in the Serie A TIM Championship, is an Italian exclusive and has a rather ancient history. The invention of the small coat of arms is, in fact, attributable to the genius of Gabriele D’Annunzio, who wanted to put a tricolor shield on the uniform of a selection of the Italian military command during a friendly match. In 1924 it was decided that the first-placed team would put a shield in the colors of the Italian flag on the shirt the following season, representing national unity at a football level. The Coppa di Campione d’Italia was conceived in 1960 by Ettore Calvelli (1912-1997), medalist and sculptor of consolidated international fame, and has been delivered since 2005 directly on the field.

The awards ceremony will take place either at the Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore in Reggio Emilia, at the end of the Sassuolo – Milan match, or at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium in Milan, at the end of the Inter – Sampdoria match. All the players and the coach of the team that will win the Scudetto will be called to the stage to receive the gold medal of Campione d’Italia, with the captain going up last to raise the trophy.
The award ceremony will be broadcast live by DAZN, SKY and foreign broadcasters ”.
