Wearing the mask required by public transit users

About 73% of public transit users believe that wearing a mask is the main element that increases their level of safety in public places, indicates a survey conducted by the organization Trajectoire Québec.

On several occasions, the approximately 650 respondents to the survey carried out in May mentioned that they wished to wear face coverings in public places.

Trajectoire Québec, which promotes public transit, asks the government to make wearing a face cover mandatory in all closed public places, where the rules of social distancing are difficult to comply with.

The organization believes that the wearing of face cover in the population is insufficient to date in indoor public places, despite the recommendations of the Directorate of Public Health.

“What we want to avoid at all costs is that the people who took public transit turn to solo cars because they don’t feel safe,” said Trajectoire Québec president François Seed.

People are starting to use public transit again on their daily commute, but less than half of metro users wear a mask, according to “24 Hours” observations.

However, since the end of May, public transit companies in Greater Montreal have distributed free of charge over 250,000 reusable masks to their customers.

According to a group of experts, 80% of the population must wear a mask in closed public places if we want to avoid a second wave of coronavirus hitting Quebec this fall.
