Mexico City, July 15 (However) .– The governors of San Luis Potosi and Aguascalientes joined the Federalist Alliance, made up of state leaders from opposition parties to the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) and those who have criticized the actions taken by the federal government before the pandemic by COVID-19.

The Alliance is currently made up of 11 governors, who met today in Durango and requested that a National Finance Convention be held to discuss how to more equitably redistribute the resources that the Federation gives to the states. They also presented an emerging economic program that could help revive the economy.

The governors proposed to create an organism to replace ProMexico and promote the country abroad, they explained that it should be made up of the Secretaries of Foreign Relations and Economy.

The Government of Chihuahua reported that it was also proposed to prepare a pattern of availability of doctors and nurses to have enough staff to meet the demand in the health systems.

The presidents that currently make up the Federalist Alliance are José Rosas Aispuro Torres, from Durango; Martín Orozco Sandoval de Aguascalientes, Miguel Ángel Riquelme Solís de Coahuila; Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo from Guanajuato; José Ignacio Peralta Sánchez de Colima; Javier Corral Jurado from Chihuahua; Silvano Aureoles, from Michoacán; Enrique Alfaro, from Jalisco; Jaime Rodríguez Calderón, from Nuevo León; Juan Manuel Carreras López, from San Luis Potosí, and Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, Governor of Tamaulipas.

Rodríguez Calderón denied that the Alliance is interested in positioning itself for the 2021 elections. “We are not, nobody is working right now for the election,” he said.

At the beginning of the month, twelve governors of the Alianza Centro Bajío Norte and the Federalist Alliance agreed to coordinate efforts to protect the health of their populations and reactivate their regional economies, affected by the health crisis of COVID-19.

After a virtual meeting, the governors of Aguascalientes, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Colima, Durango, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nuevo León, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí and Tamaulipas, issued a statement to address the consequences of the current situation of the coronavirus in the country.

The governors agreed that the federal system has not exercised a coherent response to the health crisis, in addition to not having a comprehensive plan to boost the economy at the regional level. For this reason, the leaders discussed a new cooperative federalism.
