Toyota Launches Kijang Innova Hybrid Later This Year?

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia is currently entering the era of electrification. Toyota Indonesia has also expressed readiness to start producing electric vehicles.

This is evidenced by Kijang Innova The EV Concept which was present at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2022.

Indra Chandra, Project General Manager of Toyota Daihatsu Engineering & Manufacturing (TDEM) said his party was preparing local production from mobil hybrid which is planned to be launched at the end of 2022.

It is assumed that the car is a Kijang Innova hybrids. This is reinforced by the statement of the Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita who said, Kijang Innova Hybrid will be made at the PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) factory. However, he did not explain exactly when the launch time.

“Local production of Toyota hybrid cars is quite complicated. For example, the logistics process for the battery only needs to pay attention to shock factors, humidity, and so on,” said Indra, in a webinar entitled ‘University Research Activities as Part of Efforts in Developing the Electrification Vehicle Population’, Friday (21/5/2022).

“It is a process that we have to prepare carefully. This is a new era for Toyota Indonesia. Preparing local electrification products, produced domestically,” he continued.

Indra also explained that installing the battery bolts for hybrid cars and electric cars cannot be done carelessly.

“For example, all this time we used 12 volts, suddenly we were told to work above 300 volts and above. At the beginning, everyone was afraid to see the orange wire,” he said.

He also hopes that Toyota’s plan to present a hybrid car at the end of the year can be implemented immediately so that consumers do not have to wait too long.

“Hopefully it will stay as we planned (end of the year), so that the Indonesian people can enjoy it in the not too distant future,” said Indra.
