This is how you avoid the closure of the A45 near Lüdenscheid

Due to the upcoming demolition of the Rahmede viaduct near Lüdenscheid, there will be more traffic on many of the region’s motorways. In this way you can bypass the gap on the A45.

The Rahmede Viaduct of the A45 near Lüdenscheid has to be demolished and rebuilt because of its dilapidated condition – so no traffic will flow on it for a long time. But how can road users bypass the gap between the Lüdenscheid-Nord and Lüdenscheid-Mitte exits?

Traffic has been routed through the city of Lüdenscheid since December 2nd. But the detour routes are heavily used. The city’s mayor, Sebastian Wagemeyer, speaks of “dramatic and catastrophic consequences” for citizens and the economy. As a first consequence, the city has lifted all construction sites on the U16 and U39 diversions and adjusted the traffic lights, reports the ADAC.

Rahmede Viaduct closed: More traffic jams on the highways

Long-distance traffic is asked to bypass the city of Lüdenscheid. The problem: “There is no nearby alternative route for long-distance traffic,” says ADAC traffic expert Prof. Dr. Roman Suthold. “It is to be feared that car and truck drivers will have to be prepared for even more traffic jams on the already heavily used Autobahns 1, 3, 4 and 46 in the coming years.”

Nationwide, traffic is currently being diverted from Frankfurt towards Cologne and Kassel. On the A1 (Cologne-Bremen), the diversions take effect from the Westhofener Kreuz near Dortmund. From the south, traffic is routed via the A4 in the direction of Cologne. According to the ADAC, anyone who has the opportunity should avoid the closure even further and drive via the A7 and the A44. The diversions are to be further optimized. The Autobahn GmbH points out the closure from the Lotte-Osnabrück junction in the north and from Frankfurt in the south.

There could be problems with the closure, for example, on the Cologne Ring, which “is already at the limit due to construction sites and closures,” as the ADAC writes. Road users would now have to adjust to fuller motorways from the Westhofener Kreuz southbound, from the Olpe-Süd crossroads westwards and from Köln-Ost northwards.

The A45 is an important axis from the Ruhr area to southern Germany in the direction of Frankfurt. Bridges have been renovated or newly built along the route for years. The new blocking joins a long series of problem cases in NRW. Several Rhine bridges are dilapidated. Traffic is reduced here and heavy-duty traffic is partly diverted with roadblocks.
