At one point, Laura Pausini was not seen on screen for a while. On Instagram, she explains why.

– I want to calm down and tell you that I’m fine. During the final, I had a drop in blood pressure, and had to stop for about twenty minutes on the advice of the doctor who helped me, she writes.

She thanks the doctor and writes that it has been a lot of work and stress in the last six months.

– But I am happy to have ended the evening with my dear colleagues, and to have been able to announce together with the winners of Eurovision, the fantastic Ukraine, she writes.

Music video from the war

Ukraine was the biggest favorite in advance, and won this year’s final of Eurovision. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj has said he wants Eurovision for “a free Mariupol”, which is currently occupied by Russian forces.

The song “Stefania” was written before the war, and is about the mother of front vocalist Oleh Psiuk. In retrospect, the group has launched a music video with a war-torn Ukraine as a backdrop.

In the video, you see the members of the Kalush Orchestra walking through the ruins of bombed-out buildings, while Ukrainian soldiers ask children for safety through flames and other dangers. The children are taken eighteen with their families in refugee camps and train stations. The soldiers, all women, stare into the camera, some of them grinning.

The video ends with a text poster that reads “This video was filmed in Bucha, Irpin, Borodyanka, Hostomel, cities near Kyiv that were under the terror of the Russian occupation” The video is dedicated to “the brave Ukrainian people”, “the mothers who protects children »and to« those who gave their lives for our freedom », it says.
