“There is a risk of social tensions.” Lamorgese alarm for September

There is a “concrete risk” that the economic crisis linked to Covid produce social tensions in the autumn ». The interior minister, Luciana Lamorgese, raises the alarm ad Agorà Estate, on Rai 3, signaling the fear that the recession may result in episodes of social anger. The picture tells of lowered shutters, of companies that close, of entire sectors on their knees, such as commerce and tourism, and of an increasing unemployment rate: together with some delays in the provision of social safety nets, but above all the looting of the mafias that they insinuate themselves among the economic difficulties of shopkeepers and entrepreneurs by lending usury money. The effects of the crisis on the country’s economy can become the trigger of a particularly hot autumn. And therefore also fertile ground, this is what is feared at the Interior Ministry, for those who intend to ride from a political point of view the possible street protests. «The risk is concrete because in September-October we will see the results of this period of serious economic crisis»Says Lamorgese before explaining where his concern comes from. “I see closed shops, citizens who do not even have the opportunity to provide for their daily needs – reflects the owner of the Interior Ministry -. The government has put in place all the necessary initiatives to meet these needs, but the risk is real “.

The precedent of CasaPound

Already a few weeks ago the minister had signaled the danger that the crisis was the perfect habitat for organized crime. And he had appealed to entrepreneurs to turn to institutions, and not to usurers, “because at stake is not only the survival of your activities but also the protection of the legal economy”. Now another alarm is added to that alarm, namely that the left and right extremism, take advantage of the general discontent by sparking some spark during the foreseeable autumn protests. In addition, there is a fear that law enforcement agencies will become the target of the troubled. Some voltage signals have already registered during the months when the anti-contagion measures were particularly restrictive, when the police forces had to enforce social distancing and the ban on gathering. In some cases, the clash almost happened, sometimes because someone like CasaPound was there to stir it up. “I see an attitude of violence against the police force that must absolutely be condemned: my thanks go to them and that of all Italians because they guarantee the democratic order and the safety of the citizens”, says Lamorgese according to which, even if the numbers of contagion seem to be under control, the government’s priority continues to be to avoid new outbreaks of infection, with specific reference to the actuality of the Covid cases arriving from abroad.

New outbreaks

«The goal is to avoid the creation of new outbreaks, therefore we are putting in place all the necessary activities for monitor, control and avoid any arrivals that could create a new outbreak». Everything to ward off a new one lockdown which, in addition to sanctioning the return of the health emergency, could complicate the economic situation. «We cannot ignore it the possibility of a virus return – the minister says -. But precisely for this reason our attitudes must be even more responsible, because we must avoid a new one lockdown». Words that are criticized by the opposition, however. «Lamorgese’s alarm was easily predictable – says Mariastella Gelmini (FI) -: it is not Covid itself that amplifies popular discontent, but the slowness and inadequacy of the solutions put in place by the government to overcome the economic crisis ».
