The regional league contests the final against Rhenania Bottrop and would like to move into the DFB Cup.
May is always a special month for football. In almost every competition, groundbreaking decisions are made at this time of the year. The fight for championship and relegation comes to a head, one cup final follows the next. Such will be the VfR Warbeyen contest on Sunday at 3 p.m.

In the Lower Rhine Cup final, the opponent from Bottrop, who plays three leagues lower, has home rights. The game is played at the Im Blankenfeld sports facility. The district league dominates in its division. The balance sheet speaks a clear language. Rhenania Bottrop was able to win all 20 championship games. The goal difference is impressive: 145:10. It is already clear: Rhenania Bottrop will appear in the national league next year. In the cup semifinals, the team triumphed 1-0 over Niederrheinliga side SV Heissen. Despite all these circumstances, VfR Warbeyen is of course the big favorite to win the title due to the clear class difference. The VfR coach knows that too Sandro Scuderi. However, he warns of the opponent.
“The results and the games we watched from them speak for themselves. It is anything but unbelievable that they are in the final. We will treat them, like any other opponent, with a certain amount of respect,” he says.

Knowledge of your own strengths
However, the coach also knows about the strengths of his team. In the regional league, VfR got the curve after a weak start and have won eleven of 17 games since November. Looking at your own performance in the second half of the season, you can go into the final with a lot of self-confidence, says Scuderi. “We secured a middle place in the league after a mixed first half and showed in the cup semifinals that we can also look good against teams from above,” says the coach. In the round of the last four, his protégés sensationally knocked out league rival and favorite Borussia Mönchengladbach from the cup.
Now the tide has turned and VfR has to accept the role of favourite. That should only concern the “fighter hearts” marginally. In Warbeyen, the first Niederrheinpokal final in the women’s department is viewed for what it is: a great opportunity. “Something is growing together in Warbeyen. We want to get the club’s name on everyone’s lips. Winning the cup would be the next step,” said Scuderi.
