The UK confirms local cases of monkey pox

“We find cases that have no identified contact with people from West Africa, which is what we have seen before in this country,” chief adviser Susan Hopkins of the UK Health Security Agency told the BBC.

– We find several cases every day, she says.

Monkey pox is usually most prevalent in parts of central and western Africa.

In recent weeks, however, the virus has been detected in the United Kingdom and several other European countries, as well as in the United States, Canada and Australia.

The virus is transmitted by close contact by touching the blisters and they crack.

Hopkins says the disease has mainly spread to urban areas in the UK among gay or bisexual men.
