The proportion of Covid-19 travel-related cases decreased this week – Abroad – News

She pointed out that two weeks ago, when the number of detected new cases was small, they were mostly related to travel or return from abroad, while this week the proportion has changed and most of the newly discovered cases are related to entertainment places in Latvia.

Asked whether the SPKC has information on how many of the newly detected infections are related to people arriving in the country on the basis of temporary residence permits (TUA), Arāja stated that the SPKC does not have such statistics.

“‘We obtain information about detected cases, whether a person is infected in Latvia, or has come from a foreign country, but we do not perform a legal analysis, whether it is a Latvian citizen who has returned from abroad or a foreign citizen who has come to Latvia on the basis of TUA or some other permission, “said Araja.

She added that this week the infected were mainly Latvian residents, for example, in cases of infection in Liepaja entertainment venues, only a Latvian youth company was involved. Similarly, of the eight infections detected on Friday, only one was related to a person coming from abroad.

It has already been reported that 1467 Covid-19 tests were performed in Latvia last day and no new cases of the disease have been registered, according to the information compiled by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC).

To date, 168,947 Covid-19 examinations have been performed in the country, with 1,173 cases and 30 deaths. 1019 people have recovered.

There are no inpatients with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. At present, three patients with the new coronavirus are still being treated in hospitals, two of whom are moderately ill and one is severely ill. A total of 183 patients were discharged from the hospital, including both those who had recovered and those who had died.

The number of new cases of Covid-19 infection has increased significantly this week. Seven new cases were registered on Monday and Tuesday, 13 on Wednesday, 11 on Thursday and eight on Friday.

In order to limit the spread of Covid-19 and prevent more and more outbreaks of the disease, the Cabinet of Ministers decided at an extraordinary meeting on Friday to shorten the working hours of public catering establishments.

Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs (JV) said at an extraordinary government meeting on Friday that the system of temporary residence permits (TUA) should be reviewed in order to reduce the spread of Covid-19. The Minister urged to consider this issue already on Tuesday, July 14, at the forthcoming meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
