In security policy, especially when talking with Russia, you should keep in mind that what he said does not mean that you should not be on the lookout – comments the President of Finland

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine suggests that the Kremlin may attack an independent neighboring country. This statement was made by Finnish President Sauli Niiniste, explaining the country’s decision to apply for NATO membership, told he is today, May 15 in an interview with CNN.

“Although I do not believe that Russia can attack Finland now or in the future, the political landscape in Europe and the world leaves no room for neutral countries,” Niiniste said.

Informing Putin in a telephone conversation about Finland’s decision to apply for NATO membership, Niiniste said he was surprised by the Russian president’s calm reaction.

“Actually, it was a surprise that he took it so calmly… But in security politics, especially when talking to Russia, you have to keep in mind that what he said does not mean that you should not be on your guard. But so far, there seem to be no immediate problems,” the President of Finland summed up.

Earlier it was known that Finland decides to apply to NATO.
