Despite the atypical preparation due to the cases of Covid-19, Rui Silva assured that the national handball team is ready to start, this Friday, against Iceland, the participation in the European in the best way.
“We are ready. It was a different preparation and a little more difficult than the usual one, but that cannot be what can stop us from wanting to always want more. (…) We get along well, and a person has to know how to adapt, whether in handball or in life. I think we have had this ability over the last few years, this was another competition, and I believe that tomorrow we will be fine”, said the FC Porto centre-back.
Assuming that «Portugal is part of a difficult group», which also includes the Netherlands and Bulgaria, Rui Silva expects an «equally difficult» debut, against Iceland, but guarantees that «the ambition is always the same» and that he remains the “willingness to always want more”.
On playing the Euro with an audience in the stands: “It’s great. We already missed feeling what it is like to play a great competition with the public, because the public is also part of it. Fortunately, we are in a country where maximum capacity is allowed and we have to take advantage of that.”
Tiago Rocha’s speech followed the same line. «The team is ready, despite some setbacks in the preparation, as a result of what the whole world is experiencing», said the pivot of Grand Nacy (France), reinforcing the message: «We are ready and motivated to enter with the right foot forward to Iceland.”
