Tension. With a new move, Erdogan jumped on Mitsotakis

Turkey will launch a new military operation along its southern borders to form a 30km-deep security zone, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced tonight.

After a government meeting, he spared details on whether he meant only the border with Syria or the border with Iraq. He only pointed out that the goal is to defend against terrorist attacks. The operation would begin when the army and intelligence complete their preparations, BNR reports.

Erdogan has once again made it clear that he opposes the admission of Sweden and Finland into NATO because they support members of the Syrian Kurdish militias:

“Those who support terrorists must give up their arrogant and insincere attitude towards us. There should be no doubt that we will do what is right for us.”

Erdogan also clashed with the Greek prime minister in absentia.

For Turkish President Konstantinos Mitsotakis, he no longer existed – because during his visit to Washington last week, he allowed himself to call on the US Congress not to approve the sale of 40 F-16 fighters to Ankara.
