Teatrova, the magic of the arts in Santa Fe with Es Cultura Local

The Casa Teatrova Association is one of the companies of the most outstanding arts and recognized by the residents of the Santa Fe sector.

Kadir Abdel Rahim Garzón, its director and founder, says that Teatrova was strengthened thanks to the support of Es Cultura Local, the program that is part of the District’s economic reactivation strategy, to generate opportunities in the localities and strengthen the productive processes of people that do activities in the field of arts, culture and heritage.

“We were winners of an award with Es Cultura Local. We had to form a pilot comparsa school, thanks to the experience we already had and to meet again after the pandemic. We had great support from the local Mayor’s Office of Santa Fe with this project,” said the leader of the arts, in Santa Fe, Kadir Abdel Rahim Garzón.

In this way, Teatrova managed to reach viewers not only from the city, the country, but from the world and also thanks to the technology that in a pandemic opened new ways to communicate art.

Kadir Abdel Rahim recounts that he joined the Teatrova group at the age of eleven, when it was directed at a district school, by Professor Carlos Parada, who passed away in 2018 and who left a great legacy among his students.

In its beginnings, the artists who passed through the group made presentations of plays, which included journalistic notes, sweets and notice boards about the events. Then the group left school and became independent and in search of locations where they could waste their creativity, they arrived at the Casa de la Cultura Cubana in Chapinero, in 1980.

The group took a risk with the puppets that conquered not only the children but also the adults. “If we have cattle and the adult is in love, it will surely come with a child,” said Kadir Abdel Rahim.

Years later, with a lot of effort, they managed to get the money to have the house that is currently Casa Teatrova, located at Calle 24 #4A-16, in the town of Santa Fe. Union, work and discipline made supports arrived that were fundamental for the construction of the Theater.

“In 2014 we received support, and we were increasingly convinced that Teatrova was a city project, a project for people who needed it,” said Kadir Abdel Rahim Garzón.

In this way the Theater was gaining recognition from the residents of the town over time and today it is one of the most important in the town.

The director of Teatrova took advantage of the interview with Portal Bogotá to invite citizens to turn to the arts and enjoy the works it offers. “Inviting them to come permanently, from Thursday to Sunday, we are programming in the afternoon and at night, Teatrova and other groups appear and also tell them that we have artistic training workshops,” explained Kadir Abdel Rahim Garzón.
