Suspects of the murder of Ayla Mintjes break silence | Inland

Mintjes was shot at on Sunday evening, May 16, 2021 in the Maassluisstraat in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. 36 casings were found in the area and several bullet impacts in homes and parked cars. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the 26-year-old friend of Mintjes, who was in the car with her, was the intended target of the shooting. The woman died in hospital from a gunshot wound to her abdomen.

In the August Vermeylenstraat in the Slotermeer district, the suspected getaway car was later set on fire, containing a handgun and two automatic firearms. The three suspects on trial this week for the murder all have burns to their bodies. According to the authorities, they incurred them in the car fire. They deny that they were in the Maassluisstraat.

“I was not at the murder. I sustained my burns in Amstelveen from boiling water,” Jeremiah T. (22) told the judges. Co-suspect Renato F. (35) confessed in court that he had to pick up a car in August Vermeylenstraat. F. says he met in the street with the driver and was “paniced” by two more men who jumped out of the car and doused it with gasoline. “There was a blow to the fire. Then I fell to the ground.”

F. and two others with burns reported a short time later in Utrecht to a niece of F. She decided to call 112 for Y. who had serious burns and could no longer stand on his legs. F. decided not to wait for the ambulance and left with his companion. “I wanted to go to my own house to take care of myself,” said F.

The court showed a reconstruction of the shooting on Monday and confronted the suspects with surveillance footage of the incidents. One of the photos from the file showed the burnt training pants with a yellow trim that the seriously injured Y. was wearing in Utrecht. DNA of F has also been found on the pants. Surveillance images show that one of the perpetrators of the arson was wearing similar pants. DNA of T. was found on a tissue left behind, on whose phone the police also found a photo of Mintjes. The police found DNA of F.

Sentencing demands are expected on Tuesday.
