Fans of German workmanship are already counting on the fact that the electric cars from the upcoming Tesla factory in Grünheide in Brandenburg will be of a higher quality than what Tesla has been building in California and China so far. In addition, CEO Elon Musk has now revealed that particularly elaborate paintwork is also planned for them: Giga Berlin will get the most modern paint shop in the world, he said on Tuesday evening without being asked on Twitter. This makes several layers of “breathtaking” colors possible, which change slightly depending on the perspective.
Tesla Cybertruck should remain unpainted
So the times of limited color selection – and possibly also persistent complaints about the paint quality – should end at Tesla. As Musk also confirmed again, the Model Y will initially be built in the German Gigafactory. The CEO did not respond to most of the many questions about the electric crossover, the Gigafactory and the paint, but repeated that Tesla did not intend to offer the steel cyber truck painted – anyone could have it wrapped in any design after purchase.
Apart from that, Musk did not provide any information on dates and other plans for the German Gigafactory. It is currently the first time that this looks like delays because the foundation for the factory is now to be built on piles, which was not foreseen in the original proposals. According to the Ministry of the Environment, Tesla is currently working on updated documents, which would then, however, have to be interpreted publicly again. According to Brandenburg’s Minister of Economic Affairs, production is planned to continue in 2021 and Tesla’s original target figures for the year will remain.

Musk’s information on the paint shop is new and should make people interested in the Model Y and other Tesla electric cars in Europe happy. According to the application documents, the Gigafactory near Berlin should initially build the Model Y, later also the Model 3 and possible “future” vehicles – which in turn means that the Model 3 should still be imported after the German Giga launch.
Other Tesla factories are later on
The other Tesla factories are also supposed to get the new painting technology, but only later: Fremont and Shanghai would also be modernized “over time”, CEO Musk wrote in another Twitter message, without specifying a specific time. However, it is difficult to make such changes during operation.
