Sony invests $ 250 million in Epic Games to expand collaboration – News

On May 13, Epic Games unveiled its brand new game engine, the Unreal Engine 5, for the first time, offering a demo that ran in real time on Sony’s ninth generation console, PlayStation 5. Without realizing it, this presentation was the start of a long collaboration between Epic Games and the Japanese manufacturer.

Today, Sony and Epic Games have signed a whole new agreement. The Japanese manufacturer who is preparing the release of PlayStation 5 has invested a total of $ 250 million to become a minority shareholder in Epic Games. This new agreement between the two giants of the video game industry aims to strengthen their already close relationship in order to create “unique experiences for consumers and creators”. However, despite this agreement, publisher Epic Games has confirmed that it will continue to develop games on all platforms and that Fortnite will be released on Xbox Series X.

But in a press release shared by VentureBeat, the two giants suggested that they could work together to provide other virtual multimedia experiences as has been the concert by Travis Scott on Fortnite. Indeed, the event which gathered more than 27 million spectators seems to have given ideas to Sony which owns the subsidiaries Sony Pictures and Sony Music, as well as a variety of popular artists like A $ AP Rocky, Christina Aguilera or even Beyonce.
