Sony has released PC sales numbers for its Vortex games

Sony held a press briefing tonight to focus on summary results of the gaming division and spoke about future plans and visions that cover a wide range of topics related to PlayStation. One of them relates to the PC versions of the hitherto exclusive console titles that Sony began releasing in 2020. Less than two years after the launch of Horizon: Zero Dawn, which was followed by Days Gone and God of War earlier this year, the Japanese company publishes numbers of units sold and says it intends to continue and expand the initiative. The turning point is the year 2025, from which Sony wants to publish half of its annual production on PCs and mobile devices.

In terms of sales, the most successful PC version of the games from Sony was Horizon. The game managed to attract 2.4 million new customers as of March this year, and the results far exceed it performance the remaining two titles. This is partly due to the fact that Days Gone and especially God of War have not been available on the PC for so long, but they still sold 852, respectively. 971 thousand pieces. In terms of revenue, the trio provided approximately $ 115 million, divided into the financial years 2020 and 2021, but as mentioned above, Sony wants to strengthen in this segment and expects revenue to be $ 300 million in the next financial year alone. Of course, this would not be possible without other games, which of course include the expected Uncharted collection with the fourth episode and spin-off Lost Legacy, as well as other, as yet unannounced titles.

The president of Sony Interactive Entertainment did not indicate what they will be, but in an interview with GQ magazine last year he openly admitted that they were preparing a large number of titles for the PC, and apparently nothing has changed in the attitude. Given the breadth of Sony’s portfolio, it is not important to name individual candidates, we just point out that previously released games such as Death Stranding or titles from Quantic Dream were exclusive to PlayStation for some time, but do not come from PS Studios, so they cannot be sort the list, or build some predictions on them. However, it’s not just PC games that Sony wants to offer more to its customers, Ryan also talked about the mobile portfolio, which is also set to grow and in 2025, combined with PC production, make up half of the games released in the financial period.

“By enlargement [našeho portfolia] Towards PCs, mobile devices and also live service games, we have the opportunity to get from the narrow segment where our software is headed, almost anywhere, ”said Jim Ryan about the vision to offer games from Sony on a variety of platforms. “I think that if we do it right, smartly and with an emphasis on quality, the chances of a significant increase in the number of people who play, enjoy and pay for our games will increase exponentially,” the PlayStation President added. In this regard, he spoke mainly about live service titles, which are currently being produced at Sony 12, with two of them expected to arrive in the current financial period. “If only some of them are commercially successful, it could have a significant impact on our business structure and its transformation in the future,” Ryan added. And as you’ve been watching in recent months, Sony has already taken some important steps on both fronts – PCs and mobile devices – that fit into the scheme and indicate where Sony will go in the coming years. We can mention the purchase of the Nixxes Software studio, which is known for its PC game ports, for example for Square Enix, resp. Former Apple Arcade Content Manager Nicolas Sebastian to lead Sony’s mobile operations.
