Spain is issuing a health alert after the detection of eight cases of monkeypox, a disease that can be transmitted by many wildlife species.
Originally from the African continent, monkeypox is now present in Europe, in Spain and Portugal and also in the United Kingdom. Should we be worried about it? This virus present in certain jungle areas in Africa is transmitted by mammals such as monkeys (hence its name) or rodents. Many very painful symptoms make this disease particularly painful. Some of the most common symptoms include back aches, muscle aches, fever, skin rashes and swollen lymph nodes.
No vaccine or treatment
According to the World Health Organization, there is still no treatment or vaccine against this virus. No reconciliation can currently be made, but the British Health Security Agency has clarified that of the seven cases detected, four concern people who have had homosexual or bisexual relations.
