The Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Germany has charged a Russian citizen who worked at a German university with espionage.
Detainee Ilnur N. is suspected of passing information to Russian intelligence on European space technology, in particular the Ariana rocket.
Until his detention, he worked as a research associate and researcher at a university in Bavaria, the prosecutor’s office said, without specifying which university it was, bg-voice.com reported. The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service contacted Ilnur I. no later than November 2019, after which he agreed to cooperate.
There were regular protests between him and a resident of Germany, to whom the Russian citizen passed information about space developments and the various stages of Ariana’s development. It is believed that the suspect received a total of 2,500 euros for the services.
