The Russian Defense Ministry says the eastern Ukrainian city of Lyman is completely in the hands of Russian military. Yesterday, pro-Russian separatists said they had taken the city, which lies in the self-declared independent region of Donetsk.
The city is of strategic importance to the Russian military as it is a hub of railway lines. Lyman is near Severodonetsk, which the Russians have been trying to surround for days.
Ukraine claimed yesterday that the Russian army controlled almost all of Lyman, but the road to a nearby place was still blocked. Russia and Ukraine fought over Lyman for several days.
