Arjen Robben has tried to persuade Mark Diemers to choose FC Groningen, says the midfielder. Playing with Robben would be ‘a dream come true for Diemers’, but it ended up being Feyenoord.
For a long time, Groningen seemed to have the best papers to bring in Diemers, until Feyenoord threw a spanner in the works and ran away with the player. Diemers admits that Robben tried to persuade him.
“He faceted and called me and asked me to come to Groningen,” says Diemers at ZO-NWS. “I already knew for a while that he would go to Groningen. That made me doubt for a while, but it would be hypocritical to come to Groningen only for Arjen Robben. Suppose he gets injured in two weeks and then I have Groningen I hope not for him, I wish him the very best. “
“I would have loved to play football with him. That would have been a dream come true. But at Feyenoord that is the same. I think you understand my choice for Feyenoord,” argues Diemers.
