Pr Soukehal: “The majority of cases of Coronavirus confirmed by PCR are less than 50 years old”

The under 50s are the people most affected by the coronavirus pandemic in Algeria. This is what emerges from the assessment made between March 1 and July 5, 2020, presented Wednesday in Algiers by Pr Abdelkrim Soukehal, during a scientific meeting organized by the company “Vital Care” and on the Coronavirus.

In fact, according to this specialist in epidemiology and member of the Scientific Committee in charge of monitoring the evolution of Covid-19, cited by the official agency, the majority of Coronavirus cases, confirmed by PCR, have less than 50 years.

He said that of the 15,941 cases of Coronavirus contamination declared in Algeria to PCR tests, 6,443 represent the age group between 15 and 49 years old, that is to say the most affected by the virus.

While explaining that this age group is “the most active”, he said that this is followed by that of those over 60, with 4,749 cases, then that between 50 and 59, with 2,689 case, while the age of 934 other cases “is not specified”, detailed Professor Soukehal.

He also specified that 714 cases are between 15 and 24 years old, while 412 others are less than 15 years old, according to the same assessment, this lower proportion can be explained by “the very good schedule of vaccines having allowed to immunize our children ”against the various epidemics, comments the specialist.

Blida in “pole position” of contamination confirmed by PCR

In addition, the data presented show that the wilaya of Blida is in “pole position” of contamination confirmed by the PCR, followed by that of Sétif and then of Tipaza, while that of Algiers is in 9th place, before d ” insist on the barrier measures to be observed in order to prevent further spread of the virus.

In a single month, an infected person can infect 406 others, while only impacting 2.5 during the same period, if the necessary precautions are scrupulously followed, he insisted, before noting that the rapid test may be recommended “as an adjunct” to the PCR test.

Noting that the world is currently facing a disease that has not been explored enough, he wanted to emphasize that “there is no treatment” for this viral pathology and that the therapeutic protocol dispensed to contain it “just reduces the burden viral “of the sick.

Algerians “consult late”

Developing “the place of the various diagnostic tests for Covid-19”, Prof in Immunology, Kamel Djenouhat, estimated, for his part, that this virus “is in the process of holding surprises and varies from subject to subject another depending on the genetic background of each, “deploring that the Algerians” consult late “.

While advocating that Algeria “review, once this epidemic has passed, its research strategy”, the Head of Medical Biology at the Rouiba hospital, among other things, emphasized “the importance deep samples ”.
