Manuel Pellegrini officially appointed as coach Real Betis starting the 2020/2021 season. Calves become a club LaLiga fourth ever coached by this man from Chile.
Pellegrini’s appointment as the new coach was announced by Betis through the club’s official website. He was bound by a contract for three years until 2023 by this Andalusian team.
Betis had already fired Rubi from the coach’s seat since June 21 last. The position of Betis tactician is now temporarily held by their football director, Alexis Trujillo until the end of the season.
The task of the Pellegrini-born coach was quite heavy at Betis. He is expected to lift the achievements of Los Verdiblancos, who have stumbled in the middle of the season. They are currently ranked 13th in the LaLiga standings.
“Real Betis has appointed a high level coach with an international label to improve the performance of the first team in our three-year project,” Betis said on their official website.
Pellegrini does have a pretty good reputation as a coach. He has been involved in teams from Chile, Argentina, Spain, England to China.
Betis is Pellegrini’s fourth club in Spain. Previously, he had gushed Villarreal, Malaga and Real Madrid.
Pellegrini’s best achievement was inscribed when managing Manchester City in 2013-2016. He brought The Citizens won one Premier League title and two League Cup titles.
But his neat achievements with City were not contagious when Pellegrini coached another English team West Ham United. Appointed as coach of The Hammers at the start of the 2018/2019 season, The Engineer was fired in mid-season in December 2018.
West Ham became Pellegrini’s last club before he decided to accept the proposal from Betis.
