Paying Tolls No Longer Using Cards, Trial in Trans Java and Bali

Jakarta

The use of electronic money using E-Toll cards will reportedly be phased out by the end of 2022. The current toll payment system will be replaced with the Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) system, which adapts technology from Hungary.

From source detik.com those who are aware of this plan, the trial process will be carried out at the end of the year. The trans-Java and Bali toll roads are toll roads that will be tested for the first time in stages.

“Because this is the most traffic in Java,” he said detik.com, Wednesday (18/5/2022). He explained that this transformation was aimed at reducing congestion at toll gates.

“This technology is to speed up travel time and not be hampered by the presence of a gate, so it’s faster,” he added. According to him, congestion often occurs at toll gates at certain moments such as going home for Eid.

“It means that to reduce congestion at the gate, there is an effort to minimize traffic jams during the holidays,” he said. This is one of the reasons for changing the payment system to MLFF.

With MLFF technology, toll users do not need to stop at toll gates to paste cards. There is a tool to record the movement of the driver and record the vehicle number plate.

The source added that later toll users will get three choices of payment methods. However, he could not explain further regarding this matter.

“Actually, the system is almost the same as non-cash, the only significant thing is that there is no gate, no manual tapping,” he said.

To realize this plan, he said there needs to be coordination with various parties. For example the relevant Ministries, Korlantas, and Local Governments so that the legal umbrella is clear.
