One in five swimming pools remains closed in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation

The pools were able to reopen last Wednesday, July 1. However, in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (FWB), one in five will still be closed throughout the summer, according to a survey by the Association of Sports Establishments (AES), quoted in Le Soir Monday.

Of the 120 basins of more than 100 m² identified in FWB, the managers of 83 of them followed up on our survey“, explains Serge Mathonet, the director of the AES.”And among these, 22% confirmed to us that their pools will remain closed this summer – it should be noted that a third of these are under construction. While among the 78% of pools that chose to reopen, half did so on July 1, 40% planned to do so during the month, and the remaining 10% in August“.

The reasons put forward by the pool managers who have chosen not to reopen are the complexity of the health protocol established alongside these reopenings and of course the economic factor.
