Norway climbs up the worst list for financial secrecy

Norway is now the 48th worst country in the world for financial secrecy, according to the Financial Secrecy Index (FSI). Norway is also the worst of the Nordic countries, and gets a secrecy score of 53.3 points out of 100, writes E24.

The index charts the extent to which countries facilitate financial secrecy, and is published every two years. According to the publisher Tax Justice Network, this is the world’s most comprehensive survey of financial transparency.

– Both we and the outside world have an expectation that Norway is a small, stable and democratic economy, where things are in order. So it is a great contrast when it turns out that we not only lack significant registers, but are also far behind countries we like to compare ourselves with, says Sigrid Klæboe Jacobsen, general manager of Tax Justice Network Norway.

Norway’s worst jump is mainly due to the fact that a register of real owners of companies is not yet in place, according to Jacobsen.
