The European Union plans to disburse massive funds to be free from dependence on Russian oil and gas. This has just been announced directly by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
The total fund to be disbursed by the EU for the plan is 300 billion euros, equivalent to Rp. 4,620 trillion (exchange rate of Rp. 15,400/euro). The funds are planned to be used until 2030, as quoted by Reuters, Wednesday (18/5/2022).
Von der Leyen detailed that a total of 10 billion euros will be allocated to build gas infrastructure. Then, 2 billion euros for oil infrastructure, and the rest for clean energy.
Apart from being free from dependence on Russian oil and gas imports, the 300 billion euro investment is also to accelerate the EU’s realization of renewable energy by 2030.
“Brussels also proposes to increase the EU’s legal target for building renewable energy and saving energy by 2030,” he continued.
The European Commission, RePowerEU said it would help the government to save more energy. This is done in order to accelerate the gradual cessation of fossil fuels. Then most importantly, to start investing on a new scale.
“So I would say this will be an attempt to accelerate the European Green Deal.”
