The number of illegal migrants in Lithuania has almost doubled in two weeks, the Lithuanian Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

Lithuanian Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite appealed to the Slovenian Interior Minister with an appeal to convene an extraordinary meeting of the EU Council of Internal Affairs Ministers due to the influx of illegal migrants from the territory of Belarus. “Only two weeks have passed since the last meeting of the EU Interior Ministers, when I informed my colleagues in detail about the situation in Lithuania, and the number of illegal migrants has almost doubled during this time. She added that Vilnius needs real political, financial and expert support to stop the flow of illegal migrants and prevent them from entering other EU countries.

“One of the most important tasks is the installation of a physical barrier,” the minister stressed.

Let us remind you that earlier Lithuania detained record number of illegal immigrants on the border with Belarus. All the detained migrants presented themselves as citizens of Iraq or had documents of citizens of that country.
