Meurthe-et-Moselle. The body of a man recovered from the Marne-Rhine canal in Champigneulles near Nancy

This Tuesday around 12 p.m., the firefighters of Nancy Gentilly were called to Champigneulles, rue de Metz opposite the Leroy Merlin store, with a victim rescue vehicle (VSAV) and the divers’ van (FPL).

Upon arrival, the divers recovered a body floating on the surface. Unfortunately, the person is already deceased. Relief operations were led by group leader Courtois de Nancy-Tomblaine. A large deployment of gendarmes came from Frouard and Nancy, with the criminal identification unit, to make the first findings.

A worrying disappearance alert

During the afternoon of this Monday, the gendarmerie of Frouard had received an alert for a worrying disappearance in the town of Champigneulles. Research, which had been initiated on Monday, had remained in vain. The gendarmerie was to involve, this Tuesday afternoon, the river brigade of Metz as well as divers to probe the canal and a team of dog handlers from Nancy to comb the sector. But at this time, it is too early to make the direct link with this disappearance. We just know it’s a man.

The body was taken care of by the funeral directors and transported to the forensic institute of Brabois. An autopsy will be performed shortly to determine the nature of the death.

The mayor of the commune Valentin Dethou was also on site.
