The boxing Olympic qualifying tournament recently held in London seems to have led to six new corona infections. That reports the BBC Thursday after inquiring with the teams.
The Turkish boxing union announced earlier on Thursday that two boxers and a coach have the COVID-19 virus among the members. Now the Croatian federation reports that a boxer and two coaches are infected.
“Our epidemiologist says they probably contracted the virus during the OCT,” Croatian League director Marko Marovic told the BBC. “Our priority is the health of the boxing family. We continue to pray that everything goes well and that no new infections are added.”
Due to the worldwide coronavirus outbreak, sporting events have come to a halt en masse, but the OKT boxing recently surprisingly continued as usual. After three days, the organization in London decided to stop the tournament after all.
The Turkish boxing union got in talks with The Guardian Already looking forward to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the British Government for holding the OCT through. “Many of us already had serious concerns. It was irresponsible.”
It is not yet known when the OCT will be completed. On Tuesday, the IOC decided to postpone next summer’s Olympic Games to 2021, so the tournament does not necessarily have to be caught up in the short term.

The coronavirus in short
