Mayor’s pleading Corona speech: So violently the citizens are demanding a curfew for Leipzig

Leipzig – Mayor Burkhard Jung (62, SPD) has been speaking to his Leipzigers for days, announcing further restrictions and tightening every afternoon, appealing like a prayer wheel to society’s reason to keep his distance from others. A curfew has not yet been imposed despite pioneers such as the entire state of Bavaria and Dresden – but this is exactly what some citizens are now vehemently demanding!

As Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (44, CDU) announced on Friday, restaurants, hardware and garden centers and hairdressers will also remain closed from tomorrow. In addition, gatherings of people under the open sky are prohibited, but without specifying an exact number of people (TAG24 reported).
Only so much: “Families should of course be able to move with each other. But if six young people meet in a playground or in the park, have a lot of fun and exchange drinks, then it should be that the regulatory office and the police intervene,” said the head of government illustrative.
It is precisely this behavior that has also been seen in Leipzig in recent days.
Up to now, events were only allowed here for up to 20 people. “Unfortunately we find that a lot of young people take advantage of the situation in such a way that together, in many, many groups together in the parks, in the squares, people are almost celebrating – and that’s not okay. I think that The seriousness of the situation is really not recognized, “said Mayor Burkhard Jung on Friday.
An impending curfew could not be avoided. Jung: “If so many behave this way, the curfew will definitely be the result and no one can move freely in our city. If we want us to contain the situation and keep it under control, then please, please, please , do not move in large groups or in small groups, but be in the closest circle. ”

Curfew: Dresden is already a step ahead of Leipzig
There has been an exit restriction in Dresden since midnight.
The city writes in its general decree: “Leaving your own home is prohibited. An exception only exists if there are good reasons, which are credible to the police, the community enforcement service and the health department and other bodies entrusted with the enforcement of this order, if requested are to be made. “
These include, for example, the exercise of professional activity, supply channels in supermarkets, drugstores and pharmacies, and medical care services for people and animals. You can read more about this >>> here.
Leipzig has not yet dared to take this step. But it seems almost inevitable.
“Nobody is safe,” said Prof. Dr. med. Gerhard Hindricks, director of the Leipzig Heart Center. “Don’t think that the terrible pictures that are currently reaching us from Italy or France cannot become reality in Leipzig. This is a scenario that could come up to us.”
At the end of his speech, OB Jung (perhaps one last time) relied on the common sense of the population. But part of this now prompts the city chief to act consistently!

The Leipzigers react so clearly to Jung’s speech
The reactions in the comments below the video published on Facebook and Twitter paint a clear picture: The majority of users already want an exit restriction – parallel to the state capital Dresden. Here is a selection of comments (spelling adopted):
- “Nice words that were spoken, but unfortunately they won’t do anything, if at all, only very little…”
- “You could have left the schools open, our dear youth are now messing around in parks, are traveling in groups on the train and behave like the last people.”
- “Please make another special appeal to the pensioners who still do not understand it. Even in the country of purchase you will be pushed and pushed by them. Very bad”
- “Here the children run through the area in groups as if they were on vacation, the risk group pensioners are only able to dispose of their rubbish from the garden and shop on the way. We do all of that for them! The endangered. And they trample it all because they are think you are unapproachable.
- “Bring a curfew, please, make the roads safer. Too many have not understood the seriousness of the situation. Appealing to reason is noble, but unfortunately it has no effect on too many.”
- “It’s time to finally act consistently. People don’t understand the seriousness of the situation! Get the curfew PLEASE!”
- “It can do so much and contain even more damage that will affect us all. It is 2 weeks from a long life, why is it not possible to stay at home? Does it have to happen in your family for you finally wakes up? “
Meanwhile, a user is certain that a curfew “is not the solution”. “Block public places and good.”
Mayor Burkhard Jung will continue to monitor the situation and behavior of the citizens. It is probably not far to an exit restriction or even a block.
