Maximum tax-free travel allowance will increase next year

The cabinet is bringing forward the increase in the tax-free travel allowance. The documents of the Spring Memorandum show that 200 million euros per year will be reserved for this next year and in 2024. It is the first time since 2006 that the kilometer allowance has been increased.

The amount will probably increase to 21 cents next year and to 23 cents per kilometer in 2024, those involved tell the NOS after reporting from the AD† The cabinet has yet to decide on the exact amounts. More information about this will only become clear on Prinsjesdag.

Employers can now reimburse 19 cents per kilometer tax-free to their staff. It had already been agreed in the coalition agreement that the maximum tax-free travel allowance would be increased. It is also up to employers themselves whether they will actually pay more.

Sky-high petrol prices

House of Representatives already asked in March for an increase in the maximum tax-free allowance due to the sky-high energy and fuel prices. As a result, the travel costs for people who go to work by car have risen sharply.

Due to the high energy prices, excise duties on fuel were already lowered earlier this year. In principle, this measure applies until the end of the year. Also applies from 1 July until the end of the year a lower VAT rate on gas and electricity.
