Marvel Explains Why Captain America Got Old

Did the final scene of Avengers Endgame leave you with a lot of questions? U.S. too ! Disney and Marvel have just answered two of them: how old is Captain America in the last minutes of the film? And by what magic is he brought to age?

You are ready for 7 million spectators to have experienced the last adventures of the Avengers in dark rooms. We therefore no longer risk spoiling the end for you, especially this passage where a very old Captain America passes on his shield to the young Falcon. Explaining to him, at the same time, how he had traveled back in time to 1945. Just to take a well-deserved retirement alongside his lifelong love: Peggy Carter.

Stronger than Marty McFly?

Let’s skip the time paradox issues that the directors ofAvengers Endgame never managed to explain. We will have to get used to it: Marvel has no coherent answer to communicate to us and compensates a little for our frustration by revealing the age of Captain Steve Rogers at the end of the film. It is Jen Underdahl, responsible for the visual effects on the fourth opus of the Avengers, who formalizes his marital status. She tells us that the first Avenger blew out 106 candles in 2023, the year in which most ofAvengers Endgame.

Cap America therefore proves to be a modest time traveler in the face of luminaries like Marty McFly who crosses 130 years of history between Back to the future 1 et 3. Or even Sam Beckett, hero of the cult TV series Code Quantumwhich covers 223. No matter the Guinness records, he will have been able to share 71 years of happiness with Peggy, until the death of the latter in 2016. Death that we learn in the blockbuster Captain America : Civil War.

There remains the enigma of his aging suffered during this second life. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has us thinking that time no longer has a hold on Steve Rogers, thanks to the injection of Super-Soldier Serum. The same one who turned him into Captain America. Except that by going back to said time, the effects of the serum would have dissipated and Rogers will finally reach the age he should have celebrated if he had not found himself trapped in the ice for seven decades (see again Captain America : First Avenger to remember this traumatic event). So the circle is complete for our good old Captain!
