Lassi Tuovi and his staff strengthened until 2023

SIG Strasbourg formalizes today the extension of its head coach Lassi Tuovi and his two assistants, Romain Leroy and Frank Kuhn until June 2023.

The 2020/21 season marked the start of a new era with the establishment of a new staff to lead the team. With Lassi Tuovi as head coach, Romain Leroy and Frank Kuhn as assistants, the team has been able to meet the expectations set by the club. Thus, after discussion with each, an agreement was reached to extend their contracts to all three until June 2023. Three signatures commented by the Sporting Director Nicola Alberani : « These re-signatures are very positive signals. The club, the Management Board and the President in the first place, wish to bet on stability. This allows us to project ourselves into the future. Being able to start the coming seasons again with the same sports staff will be a strong asset for SIG Strasbourg. This is not possible in all clubs and it is necessarily a good thing, an excellent foundation for the future. ».

Arrived at the club in the summer of 2016, Lassi Tuovi was assistant to Henrik Dettmann and then Vincent Collet at SIG Strasbourg during the 2016/17 season. Returning to Alsace in July 2018, the current assistant coach of the Finnish national team, was appointed head coach on January 25, 2020 before being confirmed to this post last summer until June 2022. Sporting Director Nicola Alberani has set up a long-term project. The contract extensions of DeAndre Lansdowne and Ike Udanoh until June 2023, along with Jean-Baptiste Maille, Léopold Cavalière and Yannis Morin, go in this direction. The coach is also part of this process by being extended until the same date.

The coach Lassi Tuovi comments: ” I would like to thank the President Martial Bellon and the Management Board, Jérôme Rosenstiehl and Nicola Alberani for their confidence since February 2020. Since then, the period was really special, but I thank the club for protecting me as a young coach while leaving me set things up my way. I have made mistakes at times, but I am learning and the club have always shown me their confidence. I am more than happy and enthusiastic about this contract extension which should allow me to stay longer at the club and in this magnificent city which has become my second home. In addition, as a coach, it is important to be able to count on this unity with my staff and to share what we have started to rebuild this year. We have learned and each one has found their role better and better. This work continues this summer by associating us with good people, humble and hardworking like Frank and Romain within our staff, in order to help the players and the club to be better every day. We will continue to move forward respecting the identity and DNA around which we have built this season. It ended a week ago, but we’ve already been looking to the future for a while and our thinking is not ‘season by season’. It’s a long-term project ».

Arrived this summer as assistants to Lassi Tuovi, Romain Leroy and Frank Kuhn are also extended until June 2023. Specialist in video analysis and scouting within this staff, Romain Leroy does not hide his pleasure in continuing the adventure: “ I thank Nicola and Lassi for this opportunity offered, under the sign of confidence, to continue a healthy and enriching collaboration with them and alongside Frank as well. It’s a great job prospect, in continuity and with the hope of quickly finding a full Rhenus ready to support us. Thank you also to the executive management of SIG Strasbourg for its willingness to continue the project. “. On his side Frank Kuhn, in charge of the technical and physical development of the players, comments: “ I am very happy and proud to extend the adventure at SIG Strasbourg until 2023. I would like to thank the club, Nicola and Lassi for the trust they place in me ».
