“The Loneliness of Cotton Countryside” at the Daile Theater

On May 28, the Russian director Timofey Kulabin’s production “The Loneliness of the Cotton Countryside” with world stars John Malkovich and Ingeborg Dapkunaiti in the main roles will be premiered at the Daile Theater.

In total, four performances will be shown at the end of May and tickets are still available.

“There are two actors in this work, but only one character. We spend most of our time in the subconscious, in nightmarish visions of a hero we don’t see anyway. is a man’s dialogue with his secret desires and fears, which he will not dare to say even to himself and from which he cannot get rid of without taking his own life. “This world creates an internal discord, a dissonance that kills people from within as a deadly disease,” the creators wrote of the production.

Exhibition “SWAMP”

From May 28, an ambitious exhibition dedicated to the work of our outstanding landscape painter Vilhelms Purvītis will be on display at the Latvian National Museum of Art.

The anniversary retrospective includes a selection of works from various creative periods from the collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art – the largest collection of the artist’s paintings and graphics, supplemented by exhibits from Liepāja and Tukums museum collections and several private collections – Belēviči family, Andris Kļaviņš, Zuzāni and others.

Andrei Osokin Freedom Festival

The third Freedom Festival of pianist Andrei Osokin will take place in Riga from May 25 to June 8, and this year, in response to Russia’s military aggression, will be dedicated to Ukraine. Currently, six concerts of the festival have been announced, which will take place at the House of the Blackheads, the Hanseatic Platform, the Piano Salon @ 152 and the Anglican Church.

The festival will bring together various Latvian and world-renowned musicians and actors, including Dita Lūriņa, Čulpana Hamatova, Ģirts Krūmiņš, Georgijs Osokins, Ralfs Eilands, Raimonds Tiguls, Georgs Siksna, Katrīna Dimanta, Roberto Meloni, Katrīna Gupalo, Andre Andre musicians and actors from Ukraine who have taken refuge in Latvia from the horrors of war. All proceeds from the ticket sales in cooperation with “Biļešu paradīze” and the “Ziedot.lv” fund will be donated to support the Ukrainian people.

Excellent bass Ginters Groisbeks in Riga

Ginters Groisbeck, one of the most outstanding basses in the world, will give a solo concert in Latvia for the first time on May 31. The concert, accompanied by pianist Aleksandras Golubicka’s piano, will take place in the Great Hall of the Latvian National Opera (LNO) with the iron curtain lowered, providing unique acoustics for chamber music.

The first part of the concert will feature songs by Robert Schuman, including the series “The Poet’s Love”, while the second part will feature music by Hans Roth and Anton Bruckner, as well as Hugo Wolf’s cycle “3 Michelangelo’s Poems” and songs from Gustav Mahler’s cycle “The Wonder of a Boy”.
