The Italian composer Ennio Morricone He died today at the age of 91 in a clinic in Rome from the complications of a fall suffered in recent days, Efe family sources confirmed.
Morricone (Rome, 1928) died during the night at the Campus Biomedico clinic in the capital, where he was after a few days ago when he suffered a fractured femur from a fall.
The award-winning teacher, famous for his compositions for films such as the “Dollar Trilogy” of Sergio Leone, had been awarded the 2020 Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts along with another of the great composers, the American John Williams.
One of his four children, Marco Morricone, explained to Efe that the funeral will be “strictly private.”

In a statement released to the media, the family assures that it is intended to respect “the feeling of humility that has always inspired the acts of their existence.”
The musician “has preserved until the last moment a full lucidity and great dignity” and has been able to say goodbye to his wife, Maria, who has accompanied him at all times.
Morricone has signed some of the most memorable soundtracks in film history.

His hundreds of creations include the one he made for “Nuovo Cinema Paradiso” (1988) by his friend Giuseppe Tornatore, “The mission” (1986) or “Novecento” (1976), by Bernardo Bertolucci.
In 2006 Morricone crowned his marvelous career with the Honorary Oscar.
And a decade later, in 2016, he won it for the soundtrack he created for Quentin Tarantino’s western “The Hateful Eight” (2015), a composition that would earn him other recognitions such as a Golden Globe or the Bafta of the British Academy .
