The Health Department today raised the number of positive cases for Covid-19 on the island to 683, reporting 63 new cases.
The positive cases were reported in the Public Health Laboratory, where three were reported; at the Veterans Hospital, where there are two new cases; and 58 additional positives reported by private laboratories.
Likewise, the number of deceased rose to 33. Health revealed that the new number of deaths was reported using the new surveillance system that counts people who die from compatible symptoms.
According to Health, the two people who died were male from the metropolitan area. One of the deceased, aged 78, was hospitalized while the other person, aged 43, died in unknown circumstances

The other cases were registered between March until now and are accounted for under the new system, after their death being compatible with those by Covid-19. Of the seven additional deaths, three are from the metropolitan region, two from the Mayagüez region, while the Fajardo and Aguadilla regions reported one case respectively.
The Secretary of Health, Lorenzo González Feliciano, affirmed that the behavior of the cases by Covid-19 on the island continues its projections.
“As we have indicated previously, this will continue to be the trend for the next few days, so it is up to us to reinforce all the social distancing measures imposed by the government and those of prevention at the individual level. Only in this way can we slow down this contagion curve and avoid a greater impact on our territory, “said González Feliciano.
As of today, 6,696 COVID-19 tests have been carried out on the island, with 4,703 negative results.
