Infiltrated by Radical Understanding, German Elite Forces Unit Disbanded

Government German decided to disperse a unit within the special forces unit, the KSK, due to a number of soldiers reportedly embracing understanding radical extreme right.

“KSK Command Two Company will be disbanded,” the source was quoted as saying CNN, Thursday (2/7).

According to the military analyst institute, Janes, the KSK is a German special forces unit formed in 1990. The model mimics the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).

The KSK is reported to have a membership of 1,400 soldiers. Their expertise is anti-terrorism operations and hostage release.

According to newspaper reports southgerman newspaperThe German Defense Minister, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, said that he had ordered to disband some of the units in the special force because it was deemed not to obey the chain of command.

He also said there was a tendency for poor leadership patterns within the unit.

Meanwhile, according to newspaper reports Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), the special forces unit will be disbanded in part because it is related to a number of events and there is the potential for increasing adherents of extreme right ideology in that unit. They reported as many as 70 soldiers would be affected by the dissolution.

KSK members are repeatedly reported to be close to extreme right groups. Last May the police reportedly seized a number of weapons, ammunition and explosives at the home of a German soldier. The suspect was reportedly a member of the KSK.

The German Military Counterintelligence Service reports that it has monitored the movements of a number of KSK members for a long time. The search was carried out after they were told that the group was hoarding weapons to carry out the attack.
