REPORTAGE

It may not be the record for the day, but with a thermometer that hovered around 32 degrees, it was complex to walk through the streets of Bordeaux. A particularly difficult heat stroke for example for Kamal, who is building a building with his colleagues in Talence, near the Gironde prefecture. “Physically, we are exhausted”, he confides to Europe 1. “We try to get a little in the shade, to drink. We make a floor, we are in full sun”, specifies Kamal, who does not dream than to take “a very good shower, and a small beer”.

France actually experienced an episode of unprecedented heat for the month of May. Records were broken in the southeast, east-central and southwest. It was more than 33 degrees in Albi in the Tarn or Toulouse, and even 35 degrees in Cap-Ferret, in Gironde.

“In one day you can throw it all away”

Near Bordeaux, this heat is also a headache for Audrey, in her small plant and flower shop. “It weakens all the flowers and plants, we had better be careful,” she says. “I have the air conditioner, I don’t want a cold room,” continues Audrey. “I work in a short circuit, so I only put it on when it is actually very hot, because you have to think about everything you consume, pollution, everything around the air conditioning. “

Her merchandise is also sensitive to heat: “In one day, you can throw everything away. It’s complicated, you have to manage,” says the shopkeeper.

Parasols, bucket hats and going out caps

In the street, to protect small children in their pushchairs or on their parents’ bikes, umbrellas, bucket hats and caps were out. It is the essential equipment for children facing the heat. “They sleep less well, but afterwards, we have a house that is quite cool, so it’s fine, we have air conditioning at home,” says a passerby, whose sleep is not disturbed for the moment.

But tonight according to the weather forecast, it is rather the storm that is likely to wake up the people of Bordeaux.
