Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) asked Commission IX of the DPR not to interfere too much with the polemic of dismissal Terawan Agus Putranto. IDI wants to take care of it internally.
This was conveyed by IDI Chairman Adib Khumaidi in a meeting with Commission IX of the DPR, Monday (4/4). During the meeting, IDI was questioned by several members of the DPR regarding Terawan’s dismissal.
“Our hope in this forum, to the honorable members of the board, is that the organizational mechanism that we are implementing please give us the opportunity to resolve it internally,” said Adib.
Adib explained that the recommendation for Terawan’s dismissal issued by the IDI Medical Ethics Honorary Council was a long process since 2013. As an IDI official, he must carry out the mandate of the MKEK recommendation after considering various options.
Adib said that there was still an opportunity for IDI to hold an open forum on the recommendation of the dismissal of a member. However, since the Terawan case has been investigated since 2013, it is likely that IDI will implement MKEK’s recommendations.
“So once again, leadership, that at a later time there is a process that I have to do, because that is the mandate of the Congress which is then followed by a forum. Then it can be internally to provide opportunities through open forums or internal provisions that do not violate organizational rules,” he explained. .
Adib also hopes that IDI’s meeting with Commission IX of the DPR RI this time will not spend too much time discussing the polemic of Terawan’s dismissal. It is better to discuss the distribution of doctors in many areas which are still lacking due to complicated regulations and lack of incentives.
It is known, MKEK recommended IDI to fire Terawan Agus Putranto from its membership. The recommendation was read out at the IDI congress in Aceh on March 25. The video was spread on social media so that it became a public conversation.
It has drawn criticism from many parties. Including Menkumham Yasonna Laoly and other officials and members of the DPR who feel that Terawan has helped. They feel that Terawan should not be fired because he has contributed so much.
