The authorities of the Orenburg region reported that about 500 migrants from Uzbekistan arrived in the region, on the border with Kazakhstan, who hope to return to their homeland through a neighboring state. According to the Minister of Health of the region Tatyana Savinova, it is not within the competence of local authorities to make decisions on the passage of foreign citizens through the state border, moreover, “there is no information that the border of Kazakhstan will be open.” According to her, the issue should be resolved jointly by the Uzbek and Kazakh authorities.
Local media report that migrants are hoping to cross the Mashtakovo checkpoint – allegedly the Kyrgyz passed through it recently. Website orenday.ru notesthat the latter were really allowed to cross the border, but it was at the Sagarchin checkpoint. The publication also points out that in the growing crowd of migrants there are “ringleaders” who are nurturing fellow citizens, assuring that they will be able to get to Kazakhstan.
According to some reports, migrants began to accumulate at other checkpoints in the Orenburg region. One of the migrants reported “Ozodlik” in “Mashtakovo” “accumulated about 400-500 people. There are still two buses full of people.”
