Government considers authorizing silting in Ribeira do Faial to Brinertes

The Regional Secretariat for Infrastructures and Equipment (SREI) is analyzing an order from Brinertes, which was received yesterday, Thursday, in public services, for the delisting of “some parts of Ribeira do Faial”, after the crusher had threatened to suspend activity next Monday.

“We inform you that yesterday, February 20, a request was made to our services for the delisting of some parts of Ribeira do Faial, which is currently being analyzed by the River Hydraulics Service”, said the River Hydraulic Services Department. of SREI through a press release, reacting to the news of the threat of the jackhammer in suspending the activity of transformation of aggregates alleging “lack of raw material”.

On the table may be the possible authorization to remove “alluvial material” in Ribeira do Faial and the solution to prevent the industry from suspending activity next Monday.

However, the tutelage of the Regional Government leaves an alert to the company. “In the context of the conservation and rehabilitation of the hydrographic network and riverside areas, article 33 of DL 58/2005, the de-silting work can only be done with the proper authorization / license from SREI”.

The Fluvial Hydraulics Service guarantees that “within the scope of its duties, it has been making regular visits to Ribeira do Faial to prevent any unauthorized intervention to remove alluvial material from the Ribeira bed”. But it calls on other private and public entities with responsibilities to do the same.

Stresses that the measures for the conservation and rehabilitation of the hydrographic network, in accordance with article 33 of DL / 58/2005, must be carried out under the guidance of the entity responsible for the management of water resources, being the responsibility of the municipalities, in urban agglomerations and owners, on private fronts outside urban agglomerations.
