From 1386 jump to 4919 CZK. CEZ is coming up with new gas prices

CEZ supplier recently published new price lists for those who want to fix the price of electricity or gas for one to three years. From the first of July, the largest domestic energy trader will also raise gas price lists for the product for an indefinite period.

A year ago, ČEZ offered natural gas for one year for a fixed price of CZK 1,386 per MWh. He last increased the price lists of fixed products in April this year, when a megawatt-hour of gas energy for new customers who only cook on gas cost CZK 2,440, including VAT. From July, however, those whose annual fixation ends will pay CZK 4,919 for the next year.

A similar jump awaits customers who would like to arrange a fixation for two or three years. For the product “Gas for 2 years in action”, households will now pay CZK 4,313 per MWh if they cook on gas, CZK 4,089 per MWh if they heat water with it, and if they heat with gas, megawatt-hour will cost them from 3972 to 4058 CZK. . Compared to April, prices changed by more than 40 percent.

For a three-year fixation, the cooking gas will cost CZK 4,313 after the change. For customers who purchased the same product three years ago and it expires in the second half of the year, an increase of almost 300 percent is expected. At that time, ČEZ offered MWh of gas for three years at the lowest rate for CZK 1,532.

About 80 percent of CEZ’s customers have fixed gas prices, but in the second half of the year, fixation ends with 10 percent of them.

“The situation is unfortunately unprecedented. Prices have risen to new records due to the war and have been very high for a long time, which could not be expected in advance, ”says CEZ spokesman Roman Gazdík.

Energy security and the demand for greater filling of gas storage facilities also play a role. “For the sake of security of supply and supply, we now have to buy more gas at the currently unfavorable wholesale prices before the next heating season. Unfortunately, this will also be reflected in the price lists for some end customers for the next heating season, “adds Gazdík.

However, CEZ is not alone. Since May, the price of the product with a three-year fixation has also been raised by the supplier Innogy, which costs MWh CZK 3,655.

“Prices of fixed products for new customers are constantly changing according to developments in wholesale markets. The latest price list for the Optimal product with a three-year fix is valid from 13 May, ”says Innogy spokesman Pavel Grochál. The previous price list was issued by the company with effect from April, when MWh of gas for cooking still cost CZK 3,265.

Since July, ČEZ has been changing the price list for existing customers with gas supplies for an indefinite period. There is not such a significant price jump, because traders buy energy for these contracts on an ongoing basis.

“Approximately one-fifth of customers have an indefinite price list. However, we do not adjust the price lists until after the heating season so that the impact on these customers is as small as possible. We are sorry, but the impact on the resulting invoice will be in the tens of percent, “describes Gazdík.

For this tariff, the supplier last changed prices on 31 December last year, when the amount per MWh increased to CZK 2,368 for customers for cooking. In two months, however, the price climbs to CZK 3,950. If the customer uses gas to heat water, he will pay CZK 3,694, if he heats the raw material, then the amount, which was now slightly above two thousand, will now increase to at least CZK 3,563.

For comparison, the supplier Pražská energetika changed its prices for its product indefinitely for the last time since May and it was an increase of 30 percent. With consumption of up to 1.89 MWh, it increased the price to CZK 4,497.

Innogy also adjusted the price of natural gas for customers with the Standard product for an indefinite period this year. “In March, 19 percent. The monthly payment of a household in a typical family house increased after an increase of 400 crowns, “says Grochál.

Innoga’s cooking gas rose from CZK 2,572 to CZK 3,286 / MWh in March. In the case of supplies for water heating, customers will pay CZK 2,344 instead of CZK 1,930, and if they also use the raw material for heating, the amount per MWh will be in the range of CZK 2,168 to 2,268.

Due to the long-term rise in energy prices on the stock exchanges, E.ON Energie did not escape the rise either. Price list changes are taking place this year more than customers were used to.

“On average, our standard price lists have increased by 16 percent for gas since January 2022, out of the total price that customers pay for energy,” says E.ON spokesman Roman Šperňák. He adds that they do not plan further increases at the moment, but due to market developments they cannot even rule it out.

Pražská plynárenská is also approaching higher prices, whose April prices for an indefinite period will change again after two months of validity. “We have been adjusting the price for some of our existing customers (excluding fixation) using the Standard product, or related products, since June 1, 2022,” said Miroslav Vránek, a spokesman for Pražská plynárenská.

Gas prices for households that cook on it will increase from 2489 crowns to 3578 crowns. If they heat water with gas, MWh will cost 3,350 crowns, compared to the original 2,263 crowns, and if people heat an apartment or a house with gas, the new price will range from 3322 to 3235 crowns, depending on consumption.

The price of electricity is also rising sharply

However, prices are rising not only for gas, but also for electricity. CEZ has also been changing the electricity price lists for fixed products for new entrants since July, but unlike gas, the price list for the indefinite period will still apply for the product from the end of 2021, when the company increased the price for the basic distribution rate D02d from 4198 to 5923 CZK / MWh. The higher rate D25d is an increase from 4270 to 5935 CZK / MWh.

THROUGH 5923 Kč / MWh 5935 Kč / MWh
Innogy 4863 Kč / MWh 4874 Kč / MWh
PRE 5903 K / MWh 6967 Kč / MWh

Innogy also raised the price list of electricity indefinitely within the Standard product, to CZK 4,863 at the rate for lighting and powering appliances, and to the D25d to CZK 4,874 from April. In May, the supplier Pražská plynárenská also increased the price, which MWh now offers for CZK 5903 at the D02d rate, and for households with electric water heating for CZK 6967.

Customers, especially long-term ones, have the opportunity to negotiate prices with suppliers. Some have a retention offer for clients who, for example, are considering switching to another company due to high prices, similar to mobile operators.

However, clients will not find a more advantageous price list on the websites of energy traders. “We are currently dealing with this individually,” says Vránek.

The offer of suppliers is currently very limited due to the market turmoil. “Until the difficult geopolitical situation and high volatility of purchase prices in wholesale markets calm down, we only offer fixed products for our customers for one or three years. We have more favorable conditions for customers who decide to extend the contract with Innogy within the extension plans after the end of the fixation, ”describes Grochál.

CEZ also offers a retention offer, but in the current situation, customers should not expect much from it. “Unfortunately, at the current high prices, retention offers do not differ so much from the classic ones. There is no room for margins in the current situation, “says Gazdík.
