Forced updates for windows 10? Microsoft removes postponement

For a long time, major function updates from Windows 10 were automatically triggered by Windows update when Microsoft’s update logic believed that a system was ready for the update. For many users, these new versions of Windows 10, called “forced updates”, did not go down well, especially as users of the home version, there was no alternative at all.

Microsoft put an end to this practice about a year ago. Function updates are now shown as an additional element in Windows Update when they are available. If you don’t explicitly want to import the function update, you won’t get it on. So no one has to be more afraid that they will accidentally put a new version of Windows 10 on in search of security updates.

The automatic update does not take effect until a version of Windows is nearing the end of support, which is the case for private users after 18 months. And even in these cases, Microsoft warns its users that support will end soon and a feature update is pending. You shouldn’t get caught cold anymore. Windows 10 1803 and 1809 are currently being updated bit by bit to newer versions. So if you are using a Windows from last year, you can continue to use it for a while. And even those who are about to end support have not had to act so far. Microsoft is now putting an end to this.
