In Graz, the first citizens can cast their vote in the municipal council election on Friday – from 1.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 18 locations. A polling station is open in each of the 17 districts, and an additional one in the 1st district with the wedding hall in the town hall. The actual election day is on Sunday, September 26th. 14 parties face the citizens. At the last ballot on February 5, 2017, 9,698 people used the early election day, this year a livelier participation is expected.
To cast a vote, you only need a photo ID, you are not bound to an electoral district, the entry in the electoral register is checked electronically. The ballot boxes are sealed and locked until election Sunday. Only the number of envelopes with the ballot papers handed in will be counted and announced on Friday. According to election officer Wolfgang Schwartz, a result can be expected by 8.30 p.m. 223,512 people are entitled to vote, 32,390 of them are citizens of other EU countries.
