Kitzingen ranks eighth among the most family-friendly small and medium-sized towns in Germany, according to a recent study by the industry journal Kommunal. Because the city is still lacking around 150 crèches in the next three years, and there is an acute shortage of 80 kindergarten places. Now the city council has decided to add a nature group to the kindergarten in Alemannenstrasse. A first step for Gntner to meet the need and to keep his promise made during the election campaign.

Up to 14 new places for children from the age of three are to be created in this way. The city’s plans are to prepare a plot of land measuring around 600 square meters and to equip it with natural elements such as sand, bark mulch or tree trunks. A small bridge is to connect the area on the Mhlbach to the new kindergarten, which is to be built there in the near future in addition to the existing one. A mobile construction vehicle on the site serves as an emergency shelter for the children when it rains or is too severely frosty. A mobile toilet trolley is also to be set up until separate toilet facilities are built. The two cars must therefore remain mobile so that the terrain can be cleared quickly when the stream floods.

Debate about the size and cost of the construction vehicle

The project is quick and relatively inexpensive to implement, said Gntner. Around 150,000 euros are earmarked for this; The construction trailer alone accounted for 73,000 euros, not conventional, but equipped for children, as the OB explained. Nevertheless, the costs appeared to be very high for some farmers. Klaus Sanzenbacher (Grne) calculated a circus wagon, isolated, for 50,000 euros. Manfred Paul (SPD) also said that according to his research, an expanded car for the kindergarten was available for 50,000 euros. A statement that Chief Executive Ralph Hartner called on the scene. The children spend the whole day outside and only use the construction trailer in an emergency.

Concern for childcare deficits in the crisis

Brigitte Endres-Paul (SPD) had another concern. In the Corona crisis, the Free State had agreed to relieve parents and to pay the daycare fees if their children could not use crèche or kindergarten. However, the flat-rate contributions that the Free State pays the kindergartens as compensation do not cover the costs. Startled by an article in this newspaper, according to which the city of Wrzburg hesitates to take over the deficit, Endres-Paul from the OB wanted to know how the city of Kitzingen intended to regulate this. He pointed out that the city already bears 90 percent of the childcare deficit. Hartner added: One can certainly talk about further compensation in the crisis. In Wrzburg the city council is apparently not that generous.
